Mrs. Karina Duenas

“As we work to create light for others,

we naturally light our own way.”

-Mary Anne Radmacher-

We are going to do poetry!  Students love technology, so let’s pair that with the love for poetry.  Students will use their creativity to share their “Hopes and Dreams,” in the form of a poem.  This one project alone will expose your students to poetry, figurative language, speaking in front of an audience.  Additionally, they will be collaborating with other peers across the United States, and the world, to see how our different cultures may differ, as well as be the same!  Jump onboard educators, and together let’s take our students on an educational adventure they are sure to never forget.

Prism Poetry Project

For Students Ages 10-14

Who Can Join?

Any students of the above age range, that have access to the internet.

About the Project

Students will be creating a poem about their hopes and dreams using figurative language.  It is suggested that all students will present their poems in front of their class, using their language skills.  Students will use their listening skills and a rubric to assess their peers.  All students participating in VoiceThread, will record themselves reading their poem.  This VoiceThread will be what is shared with other participating classrooms around the world.  Students will then be able to hear poetry from many different students and will give positive feedback on the thread.

When?

March 16th- April 30th, 2018.

Why?

The cross-cultural benefits of this project will be to better understand how other cultures around the world speak, communicate and perceive the world around them.  Students will be able to see how their hopes and dreams are both the same and different from others.  It is also my hope to promote team work.
