Step-By-Step Guide to the Project

1.Teachers will need to fill out the contact form on the website to register for the project.

2. Next teachers will access the documents and video tutorial(s) provided for the project.

3. Teachers will either need to teach a lesson(s) on figurative language, or use the lesson provided under lesson materials.

4.Students will be shown an example of poetry, using figurative language, with links to resources.

5.After discussing and learning about figurative language teachers will present the task of students creating their own poem using figurative language, that talks about their hopes and dreams.  A graphic organizer will be provided to assist students in how to use different types of figurative language based on the topic “My Hopes and Dreams.” An example of an organizer completed will be provided. Students may write as little or as many lines as they fill necessary to convey their hopes and dreams.

6.After students create their poems they will read them in front of their class, this will fulfill the speaking and listening standards.  A rubric has been provided for this.

7. Students/teacher will then log in to Voicethread (which the teacher will be given directions on how to do this), where they will record themselves reading their poem.

8. Once all participating classes have recorded their readings, students will be able to listen to the feed and give positive and encouraging feedback to all participants.  It will be recommended that teachers teach a lesson on digital citizenship before having students give feedback on the readings.  A digital citizenship lesson is provided, if the teacher chooses to use it.
